Add your text to see its AI score and sentence breakdown.

Paste your writing to check for signs of AI and review any highlighted passages. AIScan gives you a starting point for a closer read of your own draft, an article or a student submission.

Check a passage without creating an account

Guests can run two free text scans each day, with 50 to 2,000 characters per scan. A free account includes five daily scans within the same character limit. Pro supports text up to 20,000 characters per scan, along with bulk detection. See plans and limits before choosing a subscription.

Paste the text or upload a TXT or Markdown file. The web text detector does not accept PDF or Word documents. If you copy from another format, read the text before scanning. Missing spaces, repeated page headers and broken sentences can change the passage you submit.

Read the score with the writing beside it

A result can include an overall AI score and highlighted passages. Keep the original document beside it. Read the surrounding sentences instead of judging a highlighted phrase on its own.

For example, imagine a report that includes a short quotation, a standard definition and the author's own analysis. A highlight on the definition should prompt you to check its source and context. It does not establish who wrote the rest of the report.

The score is not a verified percentage of AI-written words. A high result cannot establish cheating, and a low result cannot certify that a document was written without AI assistance. Our accuracy guidance explains how to interpret these limits.

Checking your own work

Keep your original draft, research notes and any available version history. If a passage is flagged, check its clarity, factual support and attribution. Editing only to lower a detector score can distract from those goals.

If someone asks about your writing, those drafts and sources help you explain your process. Our guide to responding to a flagged result gives you a practical checklist.

Reviewing someone else's writing

Use the result to choose what to review, then ask the writer about their reasoning and sources. Check the course or workplace policy for permitted assistance. The detector cannot decide that for you.

Teachers can follow the student-writing review workflow. Editors should also check facts, quotations and permissions, because an AI assessment does not establish that a piece is accurate or original. See AI detection versus plagiarism checking.

Questions before you scan

Can AIScan prove that ChatGPT wrote a passage? No. Optional source estimates are suggestions for review, not verified records of a particular model, app or conversation. Read what model estimates can tell you.

Can I submit someone else's document? Check that you have permission and follow your organisation's requirements. Review the privacy policy before uploading sensitive material.

What should I do if results conflict? Keep the submitted text and the results together. Different scores do not settle authorship. Review the document, the writer's explanation and any available drafting evidence before deciding.
